Sameer Ahmed has been Consul and Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Consulate-General in Chicago since December 2021. A career foreign service officer, Mr. Ahmed began his diplomatic career in 2000. His overseas postings have included New Delhi, India and Abu Dhabi, UAE. At headquarters, Sameer has served in various roles including as Executive Officer to the Deputy Minister of International Trade, Spokesperson and Media Relations Officer, G7 Summit Policy Officer and Deputy Director of the Southeast Asia and Oceania Relations Division. Prior to arriving in Chicago, Mr. Ahmed was Trade Commissioner and Head of Office at the Waterloo satellite of the Ontario Regional Office of Global Affairs Canada. He is the recipient of the Head of Public Service Award and the Minister of International Trade Award. Sameer has also lived, studied and worked in Japan, Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom. Mr. Ahmed is committed to the application of the principles and practice of reconciliation, equity, accessibility, diversity and inclusion in his work and wider community.
