Building Blocks: Geopolitics and Defense Industrial Cooperation in Emerging Economies
This plenary session will review the major geopolitical events that have taken place over the last year, outlining some of the main impacts that they have had on the defense industrial landscape in the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, and South America. The session will review how several new market entrants from these regions have made use of offset and industrial cooperation programs to expand their footprint in global markets, and how several countries in these regions have benefitted from their successful implementation.

Biography

With 25 years of experience in the sector, Inigo Guevara is the Managing Director of Janes Strategic Services, leading a global, cross-functional team of consultants and subject matter experts that advise government and industry customers. Inigo joined Janes in 2015 and before that, since 2010, he was a senior analyst for security and defense at a Washington DC-based company that supports the US and foreign governments in a variety of intelligence capabilities. Prior to this, Inigo was director of analysis at the National Security Council, Office of the President of Mexico. There, Inigo advised and amplified defense market analysis, directed the selection of vital air and land platforms, and conceived the design of an offset-based procurement strategy focusing on indirect programs to strengthen the broader economy, specifically the blooming supply chain/components-centric aerospace industry. Inigo is adjunct faculty at Georgetown University, where he teaches a graduate-level course titled International Arms Trade, as part of the Master of Arts program at the Security Studies Program of the School of Foreign Service. Beyond, Janes and Georgetown University, Inigo is also a Non-resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council, a Washington DC-based think tank, and has recently been appointed as Treasurer to the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Defense College Foundation in Washington D.C.
