This presentation considers defense procurement across Africa and the changes that have impacted the supplier scene over the last decade. Historically, traditional supplier countries have gradually been replaced by a new generation of suppliers (such as Turkey and the UAE) which are fast expanding their footprint globally and have managed to present a compelling offer. Technically as well as from a geopolitical standpoint to many African countries. We will review the enduring market presence of China as well as the resurgence of Russia.
Defence industrialisation in Africa – New and emerging stakeholders
This briefing examines the fast-expanding defence industrialisation efforts in Africa, given that a growing number of African countries seek to develop domestic capabilities to produce military equipment and/or increase the sophistication of their existing defence industrial base, in a bid towards greater self-reliance and economic diversification.
This presentation will examine the increased focus on new technologies, notably unmanned systems as well as the approach by multiple countries in leveraging technology transfers and licensing agreements alongside the growing interest in fomenting defence exports.
